BMW made big changes to its 6-Series model lineup for 2018. The slow-selling U.S.-spec 6-Series coupe was discontinued, but a two-door convertible and four-door Gran Coupe are still there. Instead, the lineup got a rather welcome addition – the all-new BMW 6-Series GT (Gran Turismo), which is built on the 5er sedan and essentially came to replace the aging 5-Series GT. It is a full-size four-door car that combines the sleek lines of a coupe and the practicality of a hatchback. The U.S. market got a sole version of this car – the 640i Gran Turismo xDrive. It is powered by a 3.0L turbo I6, which sends 335 hp to all four corners via an 8-speed ZF 8HP automatic. The 2018 6-Series GT borrowed the interior design from its 5-Series predecessor, which is a rather good thing as the 5er GT boasted some of the most beautiful interiors in its class. Everything inside the 6-Series GT model says luxury and class, from raised seats upholstered in fine nappa or dakota leather to an austere and well-equipped center console with a 10.25'' touchscreen and iDrive 6.0 that come as standard.

Given that the regular 6-Series lineup got a facelift just a couple of years ago, what it received for 2018 is a range of minor tweaks. The 2018 BMW 6-Series was given an upgraded iDrive and a new option in the M Sport package that offers carbon fiber interior accents. The 6er can be had with rear- or all-wheel drive and offers 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines for 640i and 650i models, respectively. Motive power for the 640i comes from the standard 3.0-liter turbocharged I6 that delivers 315 horsepower. Opting for the 650i adds a twin-turbo V8 that is rated at 445 horsepower. Both options are bolted to an 8-speed automatic. Those who need even higher performance might take M6 versions of each into consideration. They'll get 560 hp and 500 lb.ft. and the availability of manual and dual-clutch automatic transmission options, 6-speed and 7-speed, respectively.
