A popular, well-rounded subcompact car, the Chevy Sonic offers a number of improvements for 2019, which is the eighth model year of its production run. The most remarkable of them is the new engine – all trim levels now come with a 1.4 L turbo I4 rated at 138 hp instead of a 1.8 L naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine that delivered the same power output but 23 lb-ft less torque. Earlier, the turbocharged I4 was optional on the LT grade and standard for the Premier. Transmissions mated to the old engine were dropped too, now you can choose between a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Some technology updates were made as well. The 2019 Chevy Sonic received a new RPO code for its keyless open/entry system and the remote start feature is now part of the Convenience Package available for the LT trim level. Earlier, it was standard for the LT sedan variant fitted with an automatic gearbox. The Fun and Sun package that contained a turbo I4 engine, 17” painted aluminum wheels, and power sunroof was dropped. Minor changes to the color palette (two options were dropped and a new one was added) complete the range of 2019 updates.

The 2019 Chevy Sonic is an excellent domestic subcompact that offers generous interior room, nimble handling, composed ride, fast acceleration, and a solid range of standard features. In addition, the Sonic feels like a more upscale car than it really is when you’re sitting behind the steering wheel. The base version of the model comes with automatic headlights, LED DRLs, remote lock and unlock, 15” steel wheels, manual windows and side mirrors, and rear-view camera. As for interior features, the car offers tilt-and-telescoping steering, 4-way manual adjustment for the driver’s seat, 4-speaker audio system, OnStar system, 7” touchscreen, corporate MyLink interface, smartphone compatibility, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. The base trim is offered as a sedan only and doesn’t provide access to the main option packages.
