In today's world of crossovers that can only be described as off-road friendly, the Jeep Wrangler is a mastodon of an SUV. It is true to its iconic body-on-frame construction and proudly displays its Trail Rated status. Just like decades ago, it has a fold-down windshield, removable doors, and five-link suspension. Today's Wrangler remains a rugged SUV featuring undeniable off-road prowess, but with plenty of modern touches added. Last year, Jeep's flag-bearing SUV received a full upgrade with the launch of the fourth-generation JL model. Although, the 2019 model year brings a notable addition being the available diesel power.
What the U.S.-spec version gets is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 rated at 260 hp, which is good for unhurried rock crawling, and 442 lb.-ft. of torque, which should give the Wrangler enough about it to be able to climb up the slopes. The European market receives a smaller aluminum-block 2.2-liter MultiJet II four-cylinder turbodiesel that makes 197 hp and offers 331 lb-ft of twist. This engine comes with a variable geometry turbocharger and stop-start and features a DOHC construction with 4 valves per cylinder. On both markets, an 8-speed automatic transmission backs up the diesel power. Last year's 2.0-liter gasoline-powered turbo four with eTorque makes its way to both Europe and America as well. Standard for the American version of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 285 horsepower that is sent through a six-speed manual.
The new Wrangler is richer in technology than ever – on higher trim levels, though, and to the extent that's needed for a vehicle whose primary purpose is off-roading. The Uconnect infotainment is operated via a 5.0'', 7.0'', or 8.4'' touchscreen and may include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, and satellite radio. Among driver assist and off-road safety features, there are electronic roll mitigation, LED tail lights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, and more.
Two 4-wheel drive systems are available for the 2019 Wrangler, the Command-Trac that is fitted to Sport and Sahara models, and the more advanced Rock-Trac reserved exclusively for the Rubicon. In both cases, the Selec-Trac full-time two-speed transfer case and heavy-duty Dana axles are standard. With the ground clearance of nearly 10 inches and approach/departure angles of 36.4 and 30.8 degrees respectively, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler can tackle challenging obstacles and dive through water that is almost 2.5 feet deep. Your can make your rugged machine even more capable with the 2019 Jeep Wrangler parts and accessories on offer.
