The Porsche 718 Cayman is the automaker's top performer despite being its least expensive offering. By no means it is a tuned-up entry-level sports coupe pretending to be a full-fledged sports car, it really is a performance machine that fears no competition. It boasts pretty solid power, almost ideal weight distribution, and a brilliant suspension setup that makes it capable on the track and livable on the street. This car is known for its remarkable cornering stability and agility. It responds precisely and instantaneously to the driver's input, whether it's a twisty canyon road or a lane change. The 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman is part of the fourth generation introduced for the 2017 model year. Back then, the redesigned version dropped its naturally-aspirated engine in favor of turbo-four power – a move that set sports car purists against the new model. Now, the much-loved free-breathing flat-six makes a triumphant return to both 718 Boxster and Cayman.
The version that comes back to its non-turbo roots is the 2020 Cayman GT4. Power comes from a 4.0-liter engine rated for 414 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque; acceleration to 60 mph takes 4.2 seconds. It is not the venerable 4.0-liter six that the 991.2 GT3 is equipped with. Instead, it is a new engine derived from the 9A2 generation of powerplants planned to be installed in the all-new 991.2 Carrera. Spirited driving enthusiasts will be happy to know that a manual transmission is the only option. It is a 6-speed gearbox with a switchable automatic rev-matching feature borrowed from the 718 GTS. Some more 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman parts are sourced from its track-special sibling, including the brakes and the front axle. For better traction and control on a track, the Active Suspension Management system allows for a range of adjustments to the ride height, camber, toe-in, and sway bar. Want a less extreme car to drive? It comes in the form of 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0. Its 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated mill is detuned to deliver 394 horsepower, which is still enough for a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds and a 182-mph max speed.
One more version packed with performance-enhancing parts is the 718 Cayman T that comes to the U.S. for 2020. In a nutshell, it bridges the gap between the standard and Cayman S models. The newcomer is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo boxer-4 and has a bevy of performance upgrades that come as optional extras on lower-grade models. The 300-hp engine allows the car to sprint to a 60-mph mark in 4.9 seconds when equipped with the 6-speed manual and 4.5 seconds with the PDK and Launch Control activated. The T comes with PASM sport suspension dropped by almost an inch. The Sport Chrono package and a mechanical limited slip diff are standard.
Visually, the 2020 Cayman is as mean as ever. The combination of flowing lines and sharp edges gives it an aggressive look, enhanced by bold wheel and lighting designs. While serving an aesthetic purpose, many of 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman accessories and parts of the body are optimized for better aerodynamics. The rear spoiler and front diffuser of the GT4 were redesigned for a claimed 50% increase in downforce. Inside the cockpit, there are racing-inspired accessories like a short-throw stick, bolstered sport seats, and a sport steering wheel. For those who want to further improve the look or function of this performance machine, we carry a wide selection of 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman accessories.
Want to make your 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman one of a kind, keep it running at its peak, or turn it into a high-powered beast? Our vast selection of premium accessories and parts ticks all the boxes.
