Automotive Lighting was founded in 1999 as a joint venture of Magneti Marelli and Robert Bosch. This offered the opportunity to combine the knowledge in lighting technology and long-standing experience of two companies.
The history of Magneti Marelli lighting division is based on the acquisition of Carello SPA in 1988 and therefore can be traced back to the beginning of the 20th century. The production of electrical automobile headlamps began in Italy in 1912. The significant progress was the invention of "Bosch-Lighting" in 1913. Today Automotive Lighting is a full subsidiary of Magneti Marelli Group.
Automotive Lighting is the Magneti Marelli division with headquarters in Reutlingen, Germany, dedicated to the development and production of automotive exterior lighting products for all major OEMs worldwide.
Quality:
Headlamps and rear lamps strongly contribute to the appearance of a vehicle. New materials, shapes and technologies offer extraordinary styling opportunities, and, consequently, provide possibility to greatly characterize the brand image. This is the reason why Automotive Lighting takes great care in the manufacture of each headlamp and rear light component, which has a special impact on driving comfort and on the safety of drivers and of all other individuals involved in road traffic activities. The company has constantly challenged to improve know-how in terms of “pedestrian protection” and safety.
As a leader in the external vehicle lighting technology, AL develops innovative processes and system solutions.
From the conception – in close coordination with all car makers – through product design, planning process, and manufacturing up to worldwide logistics, AL offers optimal business strategies.
Headlamp solutions are always aimed at improving visibility and vision during day and night driving. They also offer opportunity to improve appearance, and at the same time integrate effective innovations, such as Xenon or LED light sources, and the development of specific lighting functions such as, for example, AFS (Adaptive Front Lighting System), IR-System (Infrared System) and DRS (Daytime Running Light).
One of the main functions of rear lamps is to signal driver’s actions and intentions. For this reason good visibility and fast switch-on times play a crucial role. Another important function is to distinguish the style of a brand: rear lamps are one of the first elements to catch one’s eyes, and they add a distinctive personality to a vehicle.
Through the years, the study and production of Automotive Lighting systems have witnessed the intense growth focused on the integration of innovative technologies and functions. These systems have become precious and fascinating elements of attention in a vehicle, representing its “eyes.” They are important in terms of driving safety and are interesting with the style evolutions of different car makers. The new light sources, efficient and powered by electronics, offer design engineers great opportunities in terms of the product design. The specific competence of Automotive Lighting consists in the excellent integration and management of electronic lighting systems.
According to the specific vehicle architecture, Automotive Lighting develops concepts and produces modular, scalable lighting control units and integrated software packages for lighting systems.
Automotive Lighting develops, produces and delivers exterior automotive lighting and belongs to leading companies in this industry. Automotive Lighting customers are all well-known automobile manufacturers.
