While most CB radios provide a similar set of basic functions and level of operation, your CB antenna has a significant effect on your communication and user experience. The most crucial factor that determines the quality of an antenna is its operating range. Depending on the type of your antenna, it may vary from 2 to 10 miles or even more. Another key factor when it comes to choosing a CB radio antenna is the way of installation.
- Fiberglass antennas are some of the most durable ones on the market, which makes them perfect for off-road use. That is the main reason why most owners of Jeeps and other 4x4 vehicles opt for them. They are versatile and can be mounted anywhere.
- A magnetic mounted antenna can be installed on just about any plain metal surface and as high up as you need. It will be a great choice for pickup truck owners. Typically, it is centrally located on the top of a truck, so the driver can enjoy a clear signal without any directional bias.
- Center-load (also known as trucker) antennas are commonly used on big rigs and semi-trucks. They have a very stiff metal shaft on the bottom. The coil is above that shaft. A steel whip goes up from there. Thanks to their construction, they offer a range of almost ten miles.
- No-ground plane antennas can be installed on any vehicle without a lot of metal on its exterior.
