A driveshaft is a crucial part that transfers torque from the powerplant to the rear-drive axle of your Chevy Colorado. The driveshaft rotates quite fast and is subject to torsional loads, so it should meet certain requirements for strength and balancing. Inside, it's a hollow tube whose wall thickness might seem insufficient – it's just 0.083" or, probably, 0.095". However, even the thicknesses used in heavy-duty Class 8 trucks are not much bigger, just 0.180 or 0.259 inches approximately, so it's not the reason to worry. What's more important is the condition of U- or CV-joints used to attach the shaft to other assemblies and the absence of bends, dents, and cracks on the shaft itself.

All of these defects can be revealed during visual inspection. In many large models, the long driveshaft consists of two sections one of which has a driveshaft center support bearing.
