All the custom cars and trucks you see here started out the same way - as production models that rolled off the assembly line looking like clones of the many that preceded and followed them. But real enthusiasts don't get any thrills from cookie cutter cars and trucks, so the car guys that own these beauties turned them into one-of-a-kind creations that outperform and outshine "original equipment" in every way. If you're not satisfied with stock, but don't know where to begin, we created this gallery to give you ideas and inspire you to build your own unique, personal rolling statement.

Don't be intimidated if some of the more extreme machines shown here seem beyond your capability - or the size of your wallet. Easy bolt-ons are a great way to start. Any sports coupe or sedan will benefit from a set of plus-size wheels and tires and a lowering kit. Handling will improve and the flush stance will give your ride a distinctive look that will be the envy of anyone driving the factory version. Complete the ready-for-the-track look with a ground-effects kit, rear deck spoiler and a carbon fiber hood. And you can get a power boost to match your ride's handling prowess with a cold air intake, cat-back exhaust system, and a custom engine tune via performance programmer.

If making your 4x4 truck or SUV into a capable off-roader is more your style you can take the same approach. Custom wheels and some aggressive all-terrain rubber, a custom grille, bull bar, running boards, and LED off-road lights will make your hauler far from common. And when you're ready to take your rig to the next level go with a lift kit, off-road bumpers, armor & protection pieces like skid plates and differential covers, performance axles and differentials, and even bigger wheels and tires with the custom fenders or fender flares to properly frame them. And your pickup will look and function better with bed accessories like a tonneau cover, bed rails, bed mat or liner, and tool box and bed organizers.

Of course, any owner will see a noticeable difference in their car or truck with smart add-ons like custom LED headlights and tail lights, and chrome trim. But when you're upgrading your ride, make sure you don't neglect under the hood and your interior. The gang down at the drive-in can't see your internal engine mods, but they won't be able to take their eyes off custom carbon fiber and polished stainless steel engine trim, especially if you reflect custom color LED lighting off of that stainless. You'll be spending a lot of time behind the wheel of your newly personalized machine, and you can make your cabin just as unique with custom logo floor mats and seat covers, custom gauges, shift knob, and pedals, and polished stainless steel trim.

Plan your moves carefully and choose components and accessories that complement one another. You'll have fun doing it and end up with a machine that's well sorted. From simple bolt-ons to major makeovers, and everything in between, the custom cars and trucks in this gallery show what's possible if you put in the effort. We hope it inspires you to start upgrading and personalizing your ride. Get out in the garage and have fun!
