LED Signal Lights

Turn signals are the most well-known signal lights. They may not rank as high in the automotive lighting hierarchy as headlights and tail lights, but they are no less crucial to safety. Before their invention drivers had to use hand signals to indicate their intentions, which required extending an arm out the window in any kind of weather, and of course such action was useless at night. The first installed turn signals were semaphore signals, also called trafficators, which were mechanical arms. However, their lights were dim and did not blink so they were easy to miss.

The first OE flashing turn signals debuted on the 1939 Buick and flashing turn signals were mandatory by the 1950s. Parking lights allow a parked vehicle to be visible to other motorists in darkness, especially when parked where its presence may not be expected, and where leaving the headlights on could hinder other drivers. Parking lights and turn signals are usually handled by the same light assembly. Since 1968 all vehicles have been required to have side marker lamps to make them clearly visible from the side. These lights are amber in front and red in the rear, so drivers can also tell which direction the vehicle is facing. Cornering lights were first seen on 1962 Cadillacs. Activated along with the turn signal, a cornering lamp projects a beam of light in the direction of the turn.

But while these signal lights were clearly a boon to driving safety and a dramatic improvement over previous methods, they were still compromised because until recently they were all illuminated by dim and unreliable incandescent bulbs. In contrast, all the signal lights you see on the page before you are illuminated by super bright LED chips that are compact yet create an exceptional amount of illumination. Unlike conventional signal lights with incandescent bulbs our LED signal lights don’t have fragile filaments that can burn out or fail from shock, and they typically last far longer, as much as 50,000 hours or more, so bulb replacement will be a thing of the past. LEDs are impervious to vibration so they’re perfect for off-roaders as well as cars traversing pothole-strewn streets.
