Parking Lights

Parking Lights

Parking lights allow a parked vehicle to be visible to other motorists in darkness, especially when parked where its presence may not be expected, and where leaving the headlights on could hinder other drivers. Parking lights alone will also draw less current than the headlights so they can be left on for short periods with the engine off without danger of depleting the battery. Front parking lights may emit white or amber light and may also serve as turn signals. They are generally separate from the headlights, but rear parking light function is commonly incorporated in the red tail lights.

Since 1968 all vehicles have been required to have side marker lamps as well, to make them clearly visible from the side. These lights are amber in front and red in the rear so drivers can also tell which direction the vehicle is facing. While these are often separate light units, many vehicles have “wraparound” parking and tail lights that are clearly visible from any angle. In 1970 it became law that the parking lights must remain on when the headlights are on, so a vehicle with a burned out headlight may still be visible to other drivers and so the vehicle cannot be confused with a motorcycle.

But today’s parking lights are for much more than enhancing vehicle visibility. Like modern headlights and tail lights, they’re employed by vehicle stylists to enhance the appearance of cars and trucks. If you doubt their importance to visual appeal, take a look at the vehicle manufacturers’ advertisements, and chances are you’ll see the newest models displayed with the parking lights on. The OE replacement and custom parking lights you see on this page can also be the medium to making your ride look its best. If you just want to replace defective or crash-damaged parking lights, our replacement lights are the affordable choice. They fit and function just like OEM lights, and once installed, are indistinguishable from factory originals. They take the same bulbs and use the same wiring.

But if you want to take your car or truck to the next level with an upgrade in both appearance and illumination, then check out our extensive selection of custom parking lights. Our custom parking lights come in many styles, in black or chrome, and clear or smoke lens. They’re the perfect way to personalize your ride and the ideal accompaniment to custom headlights and custom tail lights. Many come with super bright LEDs. But with LEDs you get more than exceptional illumination, you also get high efficiency and durability. They consume very little power, so they won’t overload your electrical system; last 50,000 hours or more, far longer than incandescent bulbs; and are highly insensitive to vibration, so unlike filament bulbs they won’t fail when the road or trail gets rough.

In addition to our huge selection of parking lights for late model cars and trucks, we also offer parking lights, lenses and gaskets for many classic and muscle cars. After decades of use the original lights on these cars usually have cracked and faded lenses with scratched and pitted bezels – not suitable for installation in a new grille or bumper or on a beautiful paint job during a restoration. Along with chrome trim and emblems, lights are the “jewelry” that provide the finishing touch. But new lights can’t just look good, they have to look right, just like the ones installed on the assembly line. The restoration parts brands we carry specialize in making genuine reproduction parts and the parking lights for classic cars that we offer are authentic replicas of the original components.
