The technical advances PST has achieved over the past 15 years allow it to bring you the finest racing and replacement driveshafts available. The PST “critical link” is a continuous filament, carbon fiber wound tube, allowing power to be transmitted from fiber to fiber. It is the finest driveshaft available anywhere. Each driveshaft is specifically designed by PST's engineering department to optimize the characteristics of carbon fiber required in your special application. PST offers a wide range of carbon fiber shafts from its drag 1480 through 2.75"1310 shafts for foreign rally sport applications.
The carbon fiber driveshaft is a perfect answer to long, high-RPM applications such as pro-stock trucks and can be engineered for any amount of horsepower. Years of use by many pro stock and pro mod teams have demonstrated the reliability of PST carbon driveshafts. Many drag racers experience a half a tenth increase in performance just by going with a carbon fiber driveshaft. Quick acceleration and smoother shifting is reported on all street applications along with drifting and road racing.
Less shock to the transmission and differential is another benefit of the carbon technology.
The most popular choice for the Camaro crowd is the 3.5" aluminum shaft. It offers the strength and durability necessary for those 4000+ RPM launches. The standard cast spicer style slip yoke is a good choice for street applications where the shock load is minimal. On the Camaros, to do hook well at high RPM off the line, PST recommends a chromoly-forged slip yoke to insure the spline strength and integrity. All shafts are fitted with 1350 solid cryo-treated U-joints.
There are two choices on the 3.5" aluminum, an entry level sportsman shaft that has 0.110 wall thickness with standard duty tube yokes. The finish on the sportsman shaft is factory smooth. PST rates this shaft at 750 HP. The critical speed is well above 9000 RPM. The PST street strip or drag race shaft is 0.120 DOM and utilizes the heavy duty tube yokes. The drag shafts have a brushed finish. The company rates this shaft to 1000 HP, and the critical speed is well above 9000 RPM.
PST builds the highest quality Mustang one-piece replacement shaft available, using genuine GKN high-performance CV joints at the differential. The design of the CV joint creates a stable shaft at all load ranges and RPM, unlike a slip and spline arrangement which must have “slop” built into it to operate. The CV joint is a heavy-duty version of the OE joint that the late model Mustangs employ.
The shafts have been tested over 150 MPH with smooth results throughout the entire speed range. PST shafts are direct bolt in and need no adapters that frequently cause problems. Each shaft is built specifically for your car, all suspension modifications should be complete before measuring for the shaft. The company requires a measurement from the transmission to the front edge of the CV cup. 51" is most common but there are variations of over 1/2". Please specify whether it is a manual or automatic transmission.
Over 15 years of working with the carbon fiber technology gives PST the experience necessary to produce these world-class Infinity shafts for the manual 6-speed transmission. Specifically designed wind angles are incorporated in the manufacture of the tubing to give extraordinary longitudinal capacity. The shafts also have a superior critical speed rating, for high-MPH applications, such as straight one-mile courses. The torsional spring rate designed into the tube gives a “smooth” 60ft, seamless shifting, and less shock to all driveline components resulting in longer part life.
Two shafts are offered for the classic Mitsubishi platform, including one-piece carbon fiber, and two-piece steel, aluminum.
The PST drag shaft is specifically engineered for your exact application. The horsepower, RPM, length of the shaft, and critical speed are all taken into consideration when deciding the proper shaft selection. The 1020 steel drawn over mandrel (DOM) is a basic shaft that will suit many applications. For horsepower over 1000 the chromoly shaft is very strong. The lightweight choice is aluminum in both PST sportsman shaft and full drag shaft. The “critical link” carbon fiber racing shaft is the industry standard in lightweight, high-strength, and safe shafts. Every shaft that the company recommends is backed by PST against failure and workmanship.
PST offers circle track shafts for a wide variety of applications. Shafts are built under the most stringent tolerances in the industry. Tubing is hydraulically straightened to .005" total runout at the center of the tube. Tube yokes are welded to within .006" runout on each end. The shafts are electronically computer balanced to less than 1/8 oz/inch as an assembly, assuring smooth operation at all speeds. All steel shafts are painted white.
PST considers a hot-rod any vehicle which is built for fun, not specifically designed for racing. There are many variations on the requirements for driveshafts for hot-rod applications. The U-joint series will usually not affect the price of the shaft.
